Except as described in this Privacy Policy, we will not use or share your information with anyone. This Privacy Policy explains what information will be collected by us when you access the Sites, how the information will be used, and how you can control the collection, correction, and/or deletion of the information. This Privacy Policy does not apply to information we collect by other means, for example via offline collection, or from other sources. By using this Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Cookies:

Cookies are files with a small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a website and stored on your computer’s hard drive. Like many sites, we use “cookies” to collect information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Site.

How we protect your information.

Your information collected through the Sites is stored and processed in the United States. The LI takes reasonable physical, electronic, and managerial precautions to prevent the loss and misuse of Personal Information under our control. Yet, web-based data transmissions may in principle have security gaps, so absolute protection may not be guaranteed. For this reason, you are welcome to transfer Personal Information to us via alternative means, e.g. by telephone, email or mail.

All the forms on our website that involve Personal Information are secure pages, protected by a reputable company that provides security for Internet sites and online credit card processing. Information on these secure pages is encrypted, thereby protected from disclosure to third parties. No credit card information is stored on our website, servers, or internal computers. When you enter sensitive information on our forms, we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL).

We are concerned with protecting your privacy and data, but we cannot ensure or warrant the absolute security of any information you transmit to us or guarantee that your information will not be accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed by breach of any of our industry standard physical, technical or managerial safeguards. If you have any questions about security on our Site, please contact us.

Use of information we collect

In general, we use Personal Information you submit to us to provide better services to you, respond to requests you make, and offer you additional information, opportunities, and functionality. We may also use your Personal Information to provide you with updates about our services. Finally, we may rely on Personal Information in order to comply with our legal obligations.

We want to provide and improve our service by:

  • Enabling you to access and use the Sites and our services.
  • Operating, protecting, improving, and optimizing the services and experience, such as by performing analytics and conducting research.
  • Sending you messages, updates, security alerts, and notifications.
  • Sending you messages and other information that may be of interest to you based on your preferences, including information about LI or related programs.

If you provide feedback to us, we may use and disclose such feedback for any purpose, provided we will not associate such feedback with your Personal Information. We will collect any information contained in such communication and will treat any Personal Information included in such communication in accordance with this Privacy Policy. We may create Anonymous Information records from Personal Information by excluding information that makes the Personal Information personally identifiable to you. We may use this Anonymous Information to learn more about how visitors use our websites, to analyze trends, to administer the site, and to gather general demographic information for reporting purposes.

We process this information given our legitimate interest in improving our services and your member’s experience, and where it is necessary for the performance of the contract with you and/or a legal obligation. You can opt-out of receiving communications from us by following the unsubscribe instructions included in our communications or changing your notification settings within your account.

We may have to use Personal Information in order to:

(a) We will not sell, loan, or lease your Personally Information to others. We may store Personal Information in locations outside the direct control of LI, for instance, on servers or databases colocated with hosting providers. However, any information you elect to make publicly available on our Sites, such as posting comments on a page, will be available to others.

(b) We work with third-party service providers who provide website, application development, hosting, maintenance, and other services for us. These third parties may have access to, or process Personal Information as part of providing those services to us. We limit the information provided to these service providers to that which is reasonably necessary for them to perform their functions, and our contracts with them require them to maintain the confidentiality of such information.

(c) Change of Ownership – Information about users and visitors may be disclosed and otherwise transferred to an acquirer, successor or assignee as part of any merger, acquisition, debt financing, sale of assets, or similar transaction, as well as in the event of an insolvency, bankruptcy, or receivership in which information is transferred to one or more third parties as one of our business assets and only if the recipient of the user or visitor data commits to a Privacy Policy that has terms substantially consistent with this Privacy Policy.

Your choices regarding your Personal Information

LI sends a newsletter and other communications to: (a) let you know about new content, important announcements, new features, or changes to the Site, (b) offer you opportunities to participate in special events, programs, and surveys, and (c) notify you about initiatives by other Polonia organizations. You may choose to opt-out from receiving such communications by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in the communication or by editing your communication preferences in your Account.

You may not opt-out from these announcements, as they contain important information about your membership. If you do not wish to receive these announcements, you have the option to cancel your LI membership or remove yourself as a contact for your organization’s LI membership. You understand that any such termination of your membership may involve the deletion of your Personal Information from our live databases. We will not have any liability whatsoever to you for any termination of your account or related deletion of your information.

This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected through our Sites. Links to outside websites placed on our sites for your convenience do not signify our endorsement of such websites or their contents. LI has no control over, does not review, and is not responsible for the privacy practices of or content displayed on other websites. We encourage you to be aware that different privacy policies may apply to each and every third-party website that you visit through links on our Sites.

This Privacy Policy is subject to periodic occasional revisions. Such amended Privacy Policy will be effective ten (10) days after being posted on LI sites or sent to you, and your continued access to the Sites or use of the services after such time shall constitute your acceptance of the amended Privacy Policy.
